A Brief History

Windsocks or Wind direction indicators, were first used in the 1st world war to indicate the direction of the wind as planes needed to land into the wind.

These days they are used not only for the Aviation Industry but also in the Chemical and Gas Industry, Fisheries and Water Management, Road works and Civil Engineering, Waste management and Recycling stations, Fire Fighting and Forestry Departments, Mining and Exploration, OH&S, WHS Site Safety and all manner of sporting activities, from hang gliding to lawn bowls.

If you have Chemicals on site WINDSOCKS are a Critical Safety Risk Assessment Tool.By placing a Windwerks® windsock on the work site, workers have a very useful tool, whilst helping the work site conform with OH&S, and WHS requirements, as it provides not only a visual indication of wind direction but also wind speed when placed in the correct location.

In emergencies the windsock can be seen by workers giving them a clear indication of the direction to evacuate a site, but also provides clear information to Emergency Services attending the site as to the direction and speed of the prevailing wind, which will enable them to set a clear plan in action.
